Authorities were responding to a domestic disturbance call around 9 PM when a shirtless man became combative, stole an ambulance and tried to run over a police officer on scene.

“As the man got into the medic unit and began driving, he started driving the medic unit toward a police officer.”
– Sekou Kinebrew, Philadelphia Police Department Staff Inspector

The officer opened fire, striking the suspect twice in the leg and once in the side before he was struck by the ambulance. Luckily, he didn’t receive any life threatening injuries.

That was the beginning of the lengthy pursuit through the streets of Philadelphia that strangely ended less than 2 1/2 miles from where it began.

“It varied in speed from around 10 miles an hour up to about 25 miles per hour during the majority of the of the male’s attempt to flee.”
– Sekou Kinebrew.

The yet unnamed suspect is currently in the hospital being treated for the 3 gunshot wounds.

Multiple police cars were damaged in the chase but fortunately no other serious injures were reported.
