On February 25 officer Kathleen Ramirez discovered the burning car around 4:15 am. The car was lying on the driver’s side with a woman trapped inside.

While Officer Ramirez waited for additional help she attempted to rescue the woman from the car. Sergeant Joaquim DeBarros arrived next on the scene and broke the window to try to rescue the woman.

At that point more officers arrived on the scene to assist. They worked together to flip the car back on its wheels. They then broke the front window of the vehicle and were able to extract the woman from the burning vehicle.

After the woman was rescued, officers noticed a car seat in the back and Sgt. DeBarros stayed behind to make sure no one else was in the vehicle.

“I am very proud of these officers and the way they worked as a team to save this female party. The members of this department go above and beyond daily with the job of protecting our great community in an effort to ensure everyone goes home to their loved ones at the end of the day.”
– Bridgeport Police Chief A.J. Perez

The woman was taken to the local hospital however there is no information about her condition at this time.

Thank you to the heroic officers who went above and beyond to save a life
