Kaleemah Rozier was stopped by police because she was not wearing a face masks while inside the subway station. Although a video that went viral shows that both Rozier and her daughter were in fact wearing face masks but their nose and mouth were not covered.
Rozier can be heard screaming at officers and telling them not to touch her.
The video at one point shows Rozier slapping away the police officers hand and at that point they tackled her to the ground and placed her in handcuffs.
At one point a witness can be heard saying, “”she got a baby with her — that’s too much.”
“She responded to the officers with vulgar language and repeatedly refused requests to properly wear her face covering over her nose and mouth,”
Mayor DeBlasio tweeted about the incident, condemning the officers for how they handled the situation.
“No one wants to see an interaction turn into this. We’ve made progress with de-escalation. This isn’t it,”

Police arrested Rozier for resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct.
The video has also sparked controversy about the racial disparity across the city as the majority of people who have been issued summons for social distancing related issues have been either Black or Hispanic Males.
