On Wednesday Democratic Presidential Candidate Tulsi Gabbard filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Gabbard is suing Clinton for 50 million in damages claiming the former Democratic presidential nominee “carelessly and recklessly impugned” her reputation. During a podcast interview in October 2019 Clinton said that a Democrat running in the presidential primary was being groomed to run as a third-party candidate and was a favorite of the Russians.
While Clinton insinuated through her remarks to be talking about Gabbard, she did not name her publicly.
Clinton stated on the podcast…
“I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate.” – Hillary Clinton
Clinton’s spokesman, Nick Merrill, commented on the remarks made during the podcast, “If the nesting dolls fits… .” which is reference to the Russian nesting dolls. Later Merrill went on to to tweet that Clinton’s remarks were referring to the Republican Party.
Gabbard reacted to Clinton’s remarks on social media, accusing Clinton in a tweet, “Of being the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long.”
While there is little chance of Gabbard winning the lawsuit it does give her the publicity that she desperately needs as she campaigns ahead of the Iowa caucuses next month
