Photos surfaced on social media of Governor Northam enjoying a beautiful day at the beach not adhering to his own social distancing guidelines and apparently forgetting his face mask as well.
Northam went to the beach with Mayor Bobby Dye to check out the scene at Virginia Beach to see if people on the beach were adhering to social distancing guidelines.
The beach has recently reopened in the state as a test to see if people could adhere to the guidelines. If it goes well other beaches in the state could reopen soon.
However photos emerged on social media blasting Governor Northam after he was seen not wearing a face mask and standing close to other community members.
In Virginia the rules state that you can be outside without a face mask if you are sunbathing, swimming or fishing and are able to maintain a distance of 6 feet from other people.
“The governor has repeatedly encouraged wearing face coverings inside or when social distancing is impossible. He was outside today and not expecting to be within 6 feet of anyone.”
