Mobs of protesters took to the streets of San Juan despite the heavy rain. Their anger has been growing since the discovery of a warehouse full of emergency supplies was discovered in Ponce.
The demonstrators waved flags, banged on posts, chanted and even paraded a symbolic guillotine through the streets.
“We’ve had enough. The people are tired of the abuse … of the lack of humanity. I am here helping those who cannot be here.”
– 82 year old protester
“I have never come out to protest but this caused me so much anger and indignation. How is it possible that you say you care about the country and yet you let so many people die while hiding these supplies?”
– protester Rubi Oliveras
The outrage from the different protests have lead to the firing of several government officials but the people are not yet satisfied. So far, The Housing Secretary Fernando Gil, Department of Family Secretary Glorimar Andújar and The Office of Emergency Management Director Carlos Acevedo have all been dismissed.
Apparently that is not enough and based on the symbolic guillotine, they want the Governors head as well.
