In a rare interview Attorney General Barr creates a dramatic break between himself and the president after being viewed for some time now as more of an ally with President Trump than a top law enforcement officer.
“I’m happy to say that, in fact, the president has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case, however, to have public statements and tweets made about the department, about our people in the department, our men and women here, about cases pending in the department, and about judges before whom we have cases, make it impossible for me to do my job and to assure the courts and the prosecutors in the department that we’re doing our work with integrity.”

The interview comes just after a few days ago when 4 top prosecutors for Roger Stone quit after the Department of Justice changed their recommendation for sentencing to a lesser sentence.
Despite President Trump’s tweets about the Stone case, he has asserted that he has never told the Department of Justice how to do their job.
During the interview with ABC Barr was asked if he was prepared for the consequences of criticizing the president, in which he stated that he was.
“I’m not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody … whether it’s Congress, a newspaper editorial board, or the president, I’m gonna do what I think is right. And you know … I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday called for an investigation to see if the recommendation to reduce Stone’s sentence was motivated by political pressure from the president.
