(VIDEO) 11 Firefighters Injured In Downtown Los Angeles Building Explosion

A massive explosion at a commercial smoke shop in Los Angeles leaves multiple firefighters seriously injured

Shortly after 6:30 pm on Saturday evening at a smoke shop located near Boyd and San Pedro Streets a fire broke out. When firefighters first arrived the building had moderate smoke, but it started to escalate when firefighter entered the building.

The firefighters were instructed to get out and at that point an explosion occurred.

A Mayday call came over the radio and within minutes eleven of the injured firefighters who suffered burn injuries were transferred to USC Medical Center.

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced at a press conference that three of the firefighters are in critical condition and one suffered serious injuries.

Several firefighters are in the intensive care unit and two firefighters are on ventilators. All the firefighters who were injured were kept in the hospital overnight.

Over 230 firefighters responded to the incident and the fire is currently being investigated.
