On February 26 a Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the Trump Administration and said the Department of Justice could withhold funding from cities and states that refuse to cooperate with Immigration Agencies by protecting criminal illegal immigrants.
Seven states and New York City sued the Department of Justice in 2017 after they announced that funding would be withheld from sanctuary cities and states.
However a panel of 3 judges ruled in favor of the Trump Administration last week saying that the Department of Justice could refuse to give states that protect criminal illegal immigrants funding.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program was created by the attorney general and is one of the biggest sources of law enforcement funding.
The withholding of funding is part of the Trump Administration’s commitment to crack down on criminal illegal immigrants.
