STL Area Officer Shot Assisting Stranded Motorist, Kills Suspect

An officer was injured and a suspect killed in a gunfire exchange in Webster Groves on Tuesday night when police officers responded to a call about a stranded motorist on Interstate 44.

Shortly before 8:30 pm on Tuesday officers in two different patrol cars responded to a call about a stranded motorist on Interstate 44. The suspect’s car was a white sedan located in the left lane near the median

When police got out of their vehicles to approach the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect got out of their car as well. At that point the suspect started firing at the officers. Police fired back.

The police officer who was shot applied a tourniquet to his leg to slow the bleeding and the second officer rushed him to the hospital.

The unidentified officer who was shot is being treated a local hospital for multiple gunshot wounds. He is reportedly in stable condition.

The suspect who is not being identified died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds

Webster Groves police are conducting an investigation into the incident and are reviewing the body cams and dashboard cams of the officers
