A rookie deputy constable was shot early Tuesday morning responding to a domestic violence call at a residence in North Harris County.

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday Officer Christopher Hendrix along with his partner responded to a domestic violence call at Cranbrook Forest Apartments. This was the second domestic violence call in a matter of hours for the same residence.

The deputies approached the door and spoke with a man inside the home. At some point the conversation turned physical and the suspect in the home pulled out a gun and shot officer Hendrix in the stomach.

Deputies returned fire as the man went back inside. Shortly after an ambulance arrived on the scene and transported Hendrix to the hospital where he is being treated.

The SWAT team surrounded the apartment and eventually got a specialized robot inside the home with a camera which showed that the man was dead.

Police believed that when the deputies returned fire they struck the man.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
