Christopher Puente is accused of taking a 3 year old girl into a public restroom and bringing her into the bathroom stall. He then went onto sexually assault her. The father of the 3 year old could hear his daughters cries for help and attempted to open the bathroom stall. When he was unable to do so he grabbed her legs from under the stall and they both got away. The girl was hospitalized after the alleged rape.
Puente is currently being held in jail without bail on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault. ICE has requested that Puente be held ahead of a possible deportation.
Puente was originally deported back in December of 2014, after being convicted for aggravated felonies. Five days after being deported he attempted to come back into the U.S. claiming he was a citizen. At the time he presented a false birth certificate. He was charged at the time with presenting false documentation and was given notice to appear before a judge. He never showed up to his immigration hearing.
In June of 2019 he was arrested again and ICE authorities asked for him to be turned over to them, but he was eventually released without law enforcement cooperating with ICE.
Chicago is a sanctuary city and does not turn over illegal immigrants even when they commit crimes of any type.

“They’re critical because we have said very clearly we are a welcoming city, a sanctuary city. Chicago Police Department will not cooperate with ICE on any immigration-related business. And that’s affected their ability to conduct immigration raids across the city. But that’s exactly our intention. We have to make sure our police department is seen as a legitimate force in all our communities.”
