A 16 year old in Atlanta Georgia was shot and killed by his stepfather after he violated the state’s stay at home order by going to hang out with friends

On Wednesday, 16 year old De’onte Roberts, got into a fight with his mom and stepfather about not leaving the house because of the stay at home order that was in place to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The teenager didn’t adhere to his mom and stepfather’s request to stay home and left the house anyways.

“The victim’s mother told detectives that that there had been a dispute earlier in the day when the 16-year-old refused his parents orders to remain in the home and comply with recent shelter in place directives,” Atlanta Police Spokesman Officer Steve Avery

When Roberts eventually returned home shortly after midnight he discovered that he had been locked out of the house. He kicked in the front door and a fight began between him and his stepfather, Bernie Hargrove

“Later, the victim returned to the home and kicked in the door to the house where a physical fight began between the suspect and the victim. During that altercation, the victim was shot.”

Hargrove shot his step son multiple times in the chest. Roberts was transported to a nearby hospital where he eventually died.

Hargrove was taken into police custody and arrested early Thursday morning. He was charged with felony murder and is being held in Fulton County Jail.
