Police: Dallas Man Out On Bail Fires Weapon At Officers

A Dallas man who is out on bond was arrested after shooting a police officer in Grand Prairie.

Alvin Leroy Hemphill is believed to have been involved in a domestic violence shooting in Carrollton. Police received a call on Monday afternoon regarding a disturbance at a hotel on West Trinity Mills Road.

Hemphill reportedly fired shots at his brother and his brother’s fiance. His brother was injured from the shots and is in critical condition. Fortunately the fiance was not injured.

Hemphill fled the scene after the shooting and was located in Grand Prairie shortly before 7:30 pm Monday evening. He was located walking along a service road on Interstate 20 near Great Southwest Parkway

Hemphill refused to listen to police commands and fired his weapon multiple times at the officers. The officers fired back.

At that point Hemphill attempted to run from the scene but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. No on was hit in the gun fire exchange.

Hemphill was arrested for assault against a public servant and two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held at Grand Prairie Detention Center.

Hemphill was out on bond for unrelated resisting arrest charges and evading arrest
