As various states and cities across the nation attempt to implement unconstitutional measures in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, police are standing up for the citizens that they took an oath to protect (from all enemies, foreign and domestic) and serve.
The Houston Police are refusing to enforce an order from County Judge Lina Hidalgo which mandates that Houston resident must wear a mask in public. The order states that anyone over the age of 10 must wear a mask while in public.
“The Houston Police Officers’ Union believes everyone should be wearing a mask in public, in order to protect themselves from the virus and we are encouraging all of our officers to wear a mask. However, we draw the line at the draconian measures Hidalgo has decided to engage in.”
“Our officers work every single day to bridge the gap with our community and earn their trust, we will not stand idly by and allow Hidalgo to tear that bridge down, with her horrific leadership and echo chamber decision making.”

The Union has contacted the Attorney General to find out if the judge’s order is constitutional.
In Snohomish County Washington, Sheriff Adam Fortney announced that their officers would not enforce the lock down as long as churches and businesses were adhering to social distancing guidelines.
“As I have previously stated, I have not carried out any enforcement for the current stay-at-home order. I will always put your constitutional rights above politics or popular opinion. We have the right to peacefully assemble. We have the right to keep and bear arms. We have the right to attend church service of any denomination.”

In Michigan four sheriffs also announced that they would not enforce the stay at home order from Governor Whitmore. The order states that you can’t travel between residence. It also makes buying seeds illegal but you can still purchase lottery tickets.
“Whitmer has created a vague framework of emergency laws that only confuse Michigan citizens.”
“As a result, we will not have strict enforcement of these orders,” the sheriffs wrote. “We will deal with every case as an individual situation and apply common sense in assessing the apparent violation… We believe that we are the last line of defense in protecting your civil liberties.”

Across the country protesters have gathered demanding that states reopen as millions of Americans are out of work. Since the start of the pandemic more than 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment.
There needs to be a balance of protecting Americans from the coronavirus while also allowing them the ability to provide for themselves and their families.
