On Monday it was quite apparent that Governor Wolf does not support any county within the state that would defy his stay at home order. He expressed contempt at any local leader who would defy his stay at home order and said officials were, “operating illegally and jeopardizing the lives of citizens of those counties.”
“To those politicians who decide to cave in to this coronavirus, they need to understand the consequences of their cowardly act. They are engaging in behavior that is both selfish and unsafe.”
“These folks are choosing to desert in the face of the enemy in the middle of a war that we Pennsylvanians are winning and that we must win,”
– Governor Wolf
Governor Wolf has extended the stay at home order to June 4 for parts of Pennsylvania. Under the current order there has been some loosening of restrictions which has allowed golf courses, marinas, private campgrounds and some retailers to open.
Many leaders in rural parts of the state feel that they should be allowed to reopen since they have not been hit as hard. At least 10 counties have announced they would reopen and in some counties local sheriffs’ offices have said that they will not enforce the order.
The leaders of areas that plan to reopen despite the stay at home order sent a letter to Governor Wolf stating that they had flattened the curve, have adequate supplies of personal protective equipment and health care facilities are equipped to treat patients.
“We, the undersigned, as duly elected state and local officials take the safety of our constituents very seriously. Subsequent movement to returning to normal operations will be at the discretion of the undersigned when certain thresholds are achieved.”

Lancaster County also sent a letter to Wolf about reopening
“We prefer to act with your cooperation, but we intend to move forward with a plan to restore Lancaster County. Governor, we don’t question your motives, however given all that has unfolded over the past several weeks, we must question your methods. We believe we share the same goals: public health, safety and an economy that can begin to recover.”

President Trump also believes that Governor Wolf needs to ease the restrictions after he called Pennsylvania out on Monday saying that the order is more for a political purpose.
“The great people of Pennsylvania want their freedom now, and they are fully aware of what that entails. The Democrats are moving slowly, all over the USA, for political purposes. They would wait until November 3rd if it were up to them. Don’t play politics. Be safe, move quickly!”
