An officer in Jacksonville was stabbed while responding to a call regarding a dispute between two roommates

Just shortly after 5 pm Officer Meckling responded to a call in the 1300 block of Golfair Blvd. When he arrived at the scene a woman answered the door holding a knife and almost immediately sliced the officer in the arm.

Off duty officer J.C. Nobles happened to be driving by at the time and he came to assist Officer Meckling. Officer Nobles also told the woman to drop the knife. She refused and came at the officer. He fired several shots which struck the woman.

The woman who was identified as Leah Baker was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead

Currently it is unclear how many shots were fired and how many shots struck Leah Baker. The Sheriff’s Office and State Attorney will conduct a thorough investigation.
