NY’s Cuomo Makes It A Felony For Police To Share DMV Data With Federal Agencies

by AmericasKeepersAdmin on May 26, 2020

Governor Cuomo put a law change into the 2020 state’s budget that now makes it a felony if any law enforcement passes DMV information over to federal agencies that enforce immigration laws.

Governor Cuomo added the law change to the Green Light Law that was initially passed in 2019. Under the original Green Light Law illegal aliens can now obtain a driver’s license in New York.

Under the Green Light Law it prohibited members of law enforcement from passing any DMV information over to immigration authorities including the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Governor Cuomo amended the law in 2020 to now make it a felony if any law enforcement passes DMV information over to immigration enforcement agencies.

Many politicians are outraged with the amendment to the law.

“I think it’s very unfortunate and makes me really question the motives of the individuals that enacted this law, if their professed interest in public safety and public health is really as important as they say they are. It forces one branch of law enforcement to obstruct the mission of another branch of law enforcement.”
– U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York J.P. Kennedy
