Michigan Lawmakers Pushing Back Against Open Carry Advocates

As hundreds of people prepare to protest tomorrow at the state capitol in Michigan, they are being warned by Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey that anyone who brings a weapon will be arrested.

The warning from Mike Shirkey that anyone who brings a weapon to the protest on Thursday at the state capitol building could be arrested comes after several death threats have been made against Governor Whitmer by individuals who plan to attend the event.

Several members of the group have stated that Governor Whitmer should be assassinated.

“Can we please just take up a collection for an assassin to put that woman from Michigan down.”

Whitmer is concerned about the threats and the violent nature that the planned protest seems to be taking. She has also stated that protesters should be wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

In Michigan individuals who have permits are allowed to bring weapons to the state capitol building. After protest last month at the state capitol where a majority of people were armed there has been a call from state leaders to revisit that rule.

“Anyone brandishing them in such a way as to intimidate or threaten anyone else should be properly handcuffed, properly taken in and fingerprinted.”
“Law enforcement needs to take this upon their own hands. When those brandishing activities occur, they need to be addressed and I’m calling on the attorney general and the governor to do so with the cooperation of the Michigan State Police.”
– Mike Shirkey

There are rumors that state police will be enforcing social distancing rules and will issue citations.

The residents of Michigan are getting fed up with their constitutional rights being violated and are protesting the Governor’s draconian stay at home order.
