Just hours before the stay at home order was set to expire in Michigan, Governor Whitmer announced that she would be extending the order for an additional 4 weeks to May 28.
Prior to the announcement Republicans had already stated they would not approve of an extension of the stay at home order. However a Michigan Judge had ordered earlier in the week that the Governor’s order did not violate citizens Constitutional rights
Governor Whitmer has accused Republicans of putting more lives at risk by wanting to end the stay at home order.
“By refusing to extend the emergency and disaster declaration, Republican lawmakers are putting their heads in the sand and putting more lives and livelihoods at risk. I’m not going to let that happen.”

Republicans are moving forward with a lawsuit forcing the court to clarify the governor’s powers. If they win the lawsuit Governor Whitmer’s stay at home order would be voided.
Protesters gathered at the Michigan State Capitol Building on Thursday demanding that Michigan reopen. Some of the protesters even came armed with guns.
Governor Whitmer has implemented some of the most drastic measures in the United States during the coronavirus pandemic and residents of the state are getting fed up with her violating their Constitutional Rights
