Due to the coronavirus Grace and Collin’s birthday party was cancelled, but their day was made special by an unexpected visit from a fireman. David Smith claims he is not a hero, but to these children he is.
“A friend of the family reached out to our Facebook page, and said, ‘Hey, is there any way you can send a fire engine over to this boy’s birthday party?’”
– Fire Chief Johnathan Heltzel
Smith showed up to their party on Saturday making it a truly festive occassion.
“At three, four years old, he was looking forward to that. So, we wanted to coordinate and brighten his day up.”
“We gave them little fire helmets, took them on the truck, showed them what we had. It made his day; it made the parents day – and I made new friends.”
– David Smith
The kids were shocked to see the fire truck show up, and one particular fire department helped to make this a birthday that Grace and Collin will probably never forget.
“With all this going on, the new normal – there’s a lot of disappointment, and people are missing out on things they want to do. So, it was just very heartwarming.”
– Collin and Grace’s mother, Erin Perkins.
