Firefighter Dies Fighting Blaze In Michigan

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI – A Forsyth Township firefighter died Friday evening battling a blaze at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base property.

The fire began around 9:30 pm at a duplex on Albatross Street. When firefighters arrived, half the building was alrighty burning. Flames were seen coming out both the windows and roof.

Officials identified the fallen third-generation firefighter as 23-year-old Ben Lauren. Forsyth Township officials said Lauren died while battling the blaze with fellow firefighters. His cause of death has not been released, and an investigation into the cause of the fire continues.

A mother and two children were able to escape the fire safely.

An investigation into the blaze and the death are being handled by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal’s office and the sheriff’s department,
