Devonere Johnson, a Black Lives Matter protest/riot organizer was arrested on Friday for allegedly blackmailing businesses.
A violent riot in Madison this past week that resulted in statues being toppled and a senator being attacked was inspired by the arrest of Devonere Johnson.
Johnson had gone into a restaurant with a baseball bat and megaphone demanding the restaurant owner give him money or he would break windows.
Johnson had gone into multiple restaurants either demanding money or free food.
“You don’t want 600 people to come here and destroy your business and burn it down. The cops are on our side. You notice that when you call them, nothing happens to us.”
– Complaint from Restaurant owner
Johnson has been active in every George Floyd protest in Madison. While he has no open court cases against him he has been arrested multiple times in the past and has been convicted or pleaded guilty on three occasions.
