A Toledo Police Officer was killed in the line of duty while responding to a 911 call about an intoxicated individual walking around the Home Depot parking lot.

Around 12 am Officer Anthony Dia responded to the 911 call. According to witnesses when he arrived the drunk man started to walk away and then turned around and fired a gun. Officer Dia was hit in the chest.

Other officers responded quickly to the scene and transported Officer Dia to ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Officer Dia was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The suspect had fled the scene and went into the woods. While police were looking for the individual they heard a single gunshot and later found the suspect dead in the woods.

“I arrived and it was a horrific and heartbreaking moment. And to my dying day, I will never forget the sight of Officer Dia being wheeled out of the hospital on a gurney, his body wrapped in an American Flag, flanked by about 20 Toledo police officers saluting and weeping.”
