Shortly after the Oakland Police Department declared the protest about George Floyd on Friday an, “unlawful assembly,” two Federal Protective Officers were shot nearby.
Around 9:45 pm a car pulled up to the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building and someone inside the building shot at the officers
According to the Oakland Police Department the shooting appears to be unrelated to the protest.
One of the officers was killed and the other was injured.
Protest began in Oakland around 8 pm and by 9 pm police were using tear gas to disperse the crowd as they threw bottles at police and set off fireworks.
By 9:30 pm the protest were declared an unlawful assembly as police increased the use of tear gas as protesters started to smash windows and take boards off of buildings.
No further information has been provided about the shooting.
