A deputy was shot and a suspect was killed after a standoff in Cumberland County Tennessee.

On June 27 shortly after 7 pm a Cumberland County deputy responded to a call about a suspicious person near Chestnut Hill Rd. Deputy Tim Tutor reported that the suspect Mark Eberly was driving erratically and the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

When Deputy Tutor approached the driver’s side window, Eberly shot the deputy. As Eberly then attempted to flee the scene Deputy Tutor returned fire.

Law Enforcement caught up to Eberly’s vehicle about a mile up the road. Eberly appeared to have barricaded himself in his vehicle, but when deputies approached the vehicle Eberly was dead.

Deputy Tutor was airlifted to UT Medical Center where he is receiving treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
