Last week health officials in Lincoln County mandated that all residents wear masks when they are out in public. However the rule was amended to exclude people of color from having to wear masks.
Activist have been advocating that by mandating that people of color wear masks puts them at greater risk for danger.
“For many black people, deciding whether or not to wear a bandanna in public to protect themselves and others from contracting coronavirus is a lose-lose situation that can result in life-threatening consequences either way,”
– ReNika Moore, director of the ACLU’s Racial Justice Program
Although how can law enforcement enforce an order that only pertains to certain races. It seems the law would discriminate against white people who might also not feel comfortable wearing masks in public.
