Cop Shot By Teen & Community Nearly Riots Thinking It Was The Opposite

Within minutes of a rumor being spread online that an officer shot a teenager, a crowd gathered outside of the St. Cloud police department only to find out it was actually the teenager who shot the officer.

Police responded to a report on social media of an armed man being in the 1000th block of 10th Avenue South. When they arrived they discovered an armed 18 year old black male. When police attempted to put the suspect in custody he shot at the officer hitting him in the hand. Police did not return fire, but manage to get the suspect into custody.

However on social media the story that was portrayed was that the officer shot the teenager. As a result a crowd gathered outside of the St. Cloud police station throwing rocks and defacing buildings in the vicinity.

“It is abhorrent to me that within minutes, the story that went out went out. This place could have been on fire over a lie. You want to see what community policing looks like? Come to St. Cloud and we’ll show you.”
– Police Chief Blair Anderson

The officer who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital where he had surgery to repair his hand.

The suspect was arrested and charged with second degree assault.
