The proposed stimulus package from Mayor Lightfoot will provide $1000 checks to eligible Chicago residents including undocumented immigrants, mixed status families, dependent adults, individuals who recently left prison and college students living in poverty.
Lightfoot made the decision to create the stimulus package after learning that the CARES act excluded illegal immigrants and college students.
“This fund serves as a critical resource for the thousands of Chicagoans who so sorely need support and relief from the impact of COVID-19, but are unable to receive it through the federal government’s own stimulus channels,”
– Mayor Lightfoot
The proposed package is called the Chicago Resiliency Fund and will partner with the Resurrection Project to identify households that were not eligible to receive funds under the Federal stimulus package.
While Mayor Lightfoot works to get money to illegal immigrants, she seems to be overlooking the crime that is taking over the city.
