According to Pittsburgh Police as protesters moved towards Fifth Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh on May 30 numerous protesters attacked a police vehicle.
Devin Montgomery along with an unidentified individual are caught on camera lighting fire to an object and throwing the object into the backseat of a police vehicle. The police vehicle then catches on fire.
The camera captures Montgomery wearing an Antonio Brown Steeler’s Jersey, blue jeans, a black bandanna face mask and a black beanie. Police put the photo of Montgomery on social media asking for help in identifying him. Two anonymous tips led police to Montgomery.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms put the home of a possible girlfriend of Montgomery under surveillance and were able to identify him by a black tattoo that was caught on the surveillance images.
Montgomery was arrested on Tuesday for federal arson charges.
“Setting a police car on fire is a federal crime, and one that we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. This is part of our commitment to protect First Amendment rights. Peaceful protesters embody those rights and have the full protections of federal law. The people who choose to disrupt those protests with violence and destruction will face prosecution.”
